Fun-a-Day in the Bay opens tomorrow night at Rock, Paper, Scissors in downtown Oakland. As always, there will be a lot to see and a lot of fun things happening for Art Murmur. I’ll have a bunch of drawings on found paper.

There was a great crowd, music by Jonathan Mann (who has been writing a song-a-day for over two years!) and the Rock Cookie Bottoms, a bunch of Art Murmur fun, and whole lot of art. One of my painting was stolen a little over an hour into the show after an earlier botched attempt.

Ted and I made some art for a show in an old convent in Brooklyn now known as St. Cecilia’s Gallery. It involved lighting prayer candles and watching videos of celebrities, before they were famous, talking about how they wanted to be famous. I’ll post photos soon.

Fun-a-Day, a show I started with some friends almost seven years ago, is coming up again! The premise is simple: pick a project (take a photograph, make the bed, draw a picture, bake a cake, etc), do it every day in January, then show your work the following month in a big group show. There will be a bunch of shows around the country this year and everyone is invited to participate. Check out our site for more details and to post your project ideas. Fun-A-Day in the Bay went really well. There were 40 amazing projects, 2 great performances and an enthusiastic crowd that packed the gallery for the entire night. The show went so well that Queen’s Nails has decided to have a second showing on March 14th, from 11-6pm.

This January, The Artclash Collective will be organizing the fifth anniversary Fun-A-Day Project!
 
What is Fun-A-Day you ask? It’s simple! Pick something you’d like to do every day (take a photograph, make the bed, draw a picture, bake a cake) and do it every day for the entire month of January. Submit your 31 pieces in early February to be included in the show. (If you do something like make-the-bed-a-day or talk-to-a-stranger-a-day, just figure out a way to document it–with photographs, in a zine, whatever.)
 
Fun-A-Day has been happening in Philly for the past five years–this marks the first year of Fun-A-Day in the Bay. The project is being organized by a group of Philly expats and at least one of the Artclash Collective’s founding members. Any and all folks living on the west coast, particularly in the Bay Area, are encouraged to submit!!

I began organizing this show in 2004 in Philadelphia with Kara, Corey and Mike (and now Sharon is involved too). Last year there were also Fun-A-Day shows in Pittsburgh and Houston. I would love to do a California Fun-A-Day, but I don’t think I have enough free time. But if anyone wants to take on a large chunk of the organizing responsibilities, I would be happy to help. And hopefully some new Fun-A-Day shows will come together this year!
